Description
Looking to staff reliable entry-level carpenters & other trades without slowing your crews down? Learn about multiple programs available for employers at this event offered by HBRACC, MassHire Cape & Islands Career Center, & Skilled Purposed, generously hosted at Shepley Wood Products hybrid: in-person and virtually.
Meet Skilled Purpose—a 12-week second-chance carpentry training and job-placement program based at the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office Bridge Center in Barnstable that turns motivated adults into work-ready craftspeople. This information session - and the program itself - is supported by a group of well-respected industry and community leaders, including: Cape Cod Carpentry Guild, Encore Construction, Dale Nikula, Mid-Cape Home Centers, MJ Nardone, and Shepley Wood Products.
Why this matters for employers:
- Pre-screened, motivated talent. Candidates complete a multi-stage vetting review, two interviews, CORI checks, and must meet sobriety, stability, and transportation requirements.
- Job-ready skills. Trainees learn OSHA safety principles, Massachusetts building code basics, tool use, and site etiquette—so you spend less time on Day-1 basics.
- They also provide case management and wraparound supports throughout the program — assessing needs like housing, transportation, food insecurity, and legal barriers, and connecting clients with trauma-informed and recovery services. These supports create stability before hire, reducing employer risk and improving reliability on the job.
- Give input, get better hires. Employers help shape the curriculum so grads learn what your jobs actually require.
What you’ll learn in 1 hr:
- What state tax credits, bonding, & other resources are available to employers
- How the process works: training → job readiness → application → interview → hire
- How Skilled Purpose prepares and screens candidates
- What ongoing post-graduation support looks like (30/60/90-day check-ins)
- How to get the first pick of upcoming graduates
