Position Summary

The Director of Development provides strategic leadership for Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod’s fundraising, marketing, communications, and community engagement efforts. This position is responsible for all aspects of philanthropy and donor engagement, including major gifts, annual giving, corporate support, home sponsorships, planned giving, grants, community partnerships, marketing, and public relations.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Development serves as a key ambassador for Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod and plays an important role in expanding the organization’s visibility, resources, partnerships, and impact throughout Cape Cod.
The Director of Development supervises the Development Assistant/Events Coordinator and Volunteer/Community Relations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Resource Development & Fundraising

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that supports the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and long-term sustainability.
  • Lead annual fundraising initiatives, including annual appeals, major gifts, corporate and home sponsorships, planned giving, and donor campaigns.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, local government funding sources, community leaders, and prospective supporters.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective donors and funding opportunities.
  • Oversee donor recognition and stewardship programs to strengthen long-term donor engagement and retention.
  • Manage fundraising events, direct mail campaigns, and other charitable giving initiatives.
  • Oversee all aspects of the grants program, including grant research, proposal development, submission, reporting, compliance.
  • Manage external grant-writing support and ensure timely and effective grant deliverables.
  • Oversee donor and prospect research utilizing DonorSearch and other appropriate resources.
  • Monitor fundraising results and utilize data and analytics to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities for growth.

Marketing, Communications & Public Relations

  • Lead marketing and communications efforts designed to increase awareness, engagement, community support, and philanthropic investment in Habitat’s mission.
  • Oversee website strategy and content, ensuring information is timely, accurate, compelling, and aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Manage the planning and distribution of newsletters, annual reports, email campaigns, social media, press releases, and other promotional materials.
  • Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and organizational voice across print and digital platforms.
  • Develop compelling stories and communications that highlight Habitat’s mission, homeowners, volunteers, donors, community partners, and impact.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local media and community organizations to promote Habitat’s mission, programs, and accomplishments.
  • Represent Habitat at community meetings, speaking engagements, networking events, and other public functions.

Community & Partnership Development

  • Strengthen existing relationships and develop new partnerships within Cape Cod’s faith community.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with businesses, civic organizations, volunteers, community leaders, and other community partners.
  • Identify opportunities to expand awareness, advocacy, volunteerism, sponsorships, and financial support.
  • Serve as a visible and enthusiastic ambassador for Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod throughout the community.
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership and staff to identify and develop new opportunities for community engagement and support.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Establish goals, priorities, and performance expectations aligned with organizational and departmental objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO, leadership team, and volunteers to advance fundraising and community engagement goals.
  • Participate in organizational planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of nonprofit fundraising and development experience.
  • Demonstrated success in major gifts, annual giving, grant writing, donor cultivation, and fundraising strategy.
  • Experience leading marketing, communications, public relations, and website management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
  • Strong grant writing and proposal development experience.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, businesses, foundations, faith communities, government agencies, and community partners.
  • Experience with donor databases and CRM systems; Little Green Light experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, project management, and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Cape Cod and its housing challenges preferred.
  • Commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s mission and values.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to use standard office equipment and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel throughout Cape Cod to meet with donors, community partners, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings, fundraising events, and community functions as needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Direct Reports: Development Assistant/Events Coordinator; Volunteer/Community Relations Manager

Schedule & Employment Status

This is a full-time, exempt position.
The schedule is established in collaboration with the CEO and requires flexibility to attend evening and weekend meetings, fundraising events, community activities, and other organizational functions as needed.
Compensation
Salary Range: $80,000 – 95,00 annually
The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skills.
