The Cape Cod Construction Summit (CCCS) is a one-day event offering Construction Supervisor License Continuing Education credits to Builders & Remodelers. Vendors, partners and presenters will be on-site throughout the day to share great products, discounts and rebates offered exclusively to members of Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod. Come learn about the latest in local building industry news, meet your legislators, get some great offers and network with professionals in the Cape Cod building community.
This full day event includes breakfast, lunch and a cocktail reception. CCCS will provide the tools you need to succeed!

An Overview of Wastewater Planning on Cape Cod will review what the issue is that is driving wastewater planning here on the Cape; discuss what some of the solutions to the issue can be and then review what some of the communities are doing. Bottomline is that significant residential growth on the Cape over the past 50 years has resulted in nitrogen from on-site septic systems entering our saltwater bodies and degrading their water quality and that nitrogen needs to be removed to restore the water quality for our tourist driven economy and quality of life for residents.
David F. Young, P.E. is a professional engineer with the firm of CDM Smith Inc. and has more than 40 years of wastewater planning experience. Much of his experience has involved working with several Cape Cod communities from Falmouth to Truro. He has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Tufts University and a MBA from Babson College and is a former President of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts. He currently resides in Yarmouth, MA.

Session will cover the severity of workplace mistakes and mis-steps that lead to serious injury & death on the job site – with severe consequences to the general contractor / builder. A topic not to be ignored or taken lightly Topics to be covered, OSHA Top -10 Citations. Learn about the OSHA -Top 10 violations for fiscal year 2022 and find out which OSHA standards are most cited during inspections to avoid penalties. OSHA Focus Four Hazards in Residential Construction. Learn about the four main groups of construction hazards where most serious deaths and injuries occur. Identify techniques, methods, and resources to work safely on residential construction sites. It’s all about prevention and the bottom line. Safety pays!

Presentation on “Study Energy” - HBRAMA / MIT will present preliminary data from a study on new requirements regarding building with energy.

1:30-2:30 – Shannon Hulst – Floodplain Specialist, Barnstable County CC Cooperative Extension & Woods Hole Sea Grant
Shannon Hulst, Floodplain Specialist for Barnstable County, Cape Cod Cooperative Extension and Woods Hole Sea Grant, will give an overview of updates to flood insurance and regulations. Shannon’s talk will start with a brief context of the reason for floodplain management, which will be followed by a simple explanation of recent changes to how flood insurance is rated by the National Flood Insurance Program. Shannon will spend a little more time discussing how certain building decisions can affect insurance rates, and then discuss regulations. There will be a reminder of basic regulations, discussion of floodplain regulations included in the pending 10th edition of the MA Building Code, and review of common floodplain building issues that have arisen in several Cape Cod towns.
2:40-3:40 – Zoning - Local representatives from Barnstable County.
3:50-4:50 - Legislative Update - Elected legislative representatives will be present to speak to housing, zoning, and building issues.

Peter Barletta is the “Compliance Assistance Specialist” for the Boston- South OSHA Area Office in Braintree MA, responsible for providing technical assistance, outreach, and training to OSHA stakeholders and the public through alliances, partnerships, and other OSHA Cooperative programs. Prior to his current position, he was Assistant Area Director for the OSHA Boston- South Office and worked 14 years in the field as an OSHA Compliance Officer conducting construction and general industry inspections and accident investigations. He is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals Boston Chapter, and is a Certified Safety Specialist (CSP), and an OSHA Authorized OSHA 10- and 30-Hour instructor.
